Allen Mombo Hayes was raised by his grandparents in Liberia, in a close community grounded in family, faith, and tradition.
That childhood was broken by political upheaval, military coups, and the civil wars that swept the country. As a boy he lived through violence, displacement, and fear, and he saw what war did to his people and to an entire generation.
He came to the United States and built a new life. He then joined the United States Marine Corps and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, returning to war from the other side, now in uniform.
Along the way he faced the loss of loved ones and the challenge of living between two cultures, two identities, and two worlds. The Incessant Bloodbath is his account of that journey, and of how a child shaped by violence can grow into a life of purpose, honor, and hope.
Living through a war that took a generation's childhood.
The belief that held him when nothing else could.
The grandparents who raised him and the loved ones he lost.
Service as a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Finding honor and hope on the other side of it all.
